Literary Agent
Location: New York City, New York, United States

Full service literary agency seeks an independent literary agent for representation to book publishers located in New York.

Please have 1-2 years of experience selling manuscripts to book publishers  based in New York.  Experience may be substituted for publishing professionals  who have contacts within various New York publishing houses (please describe in your resume) and also for professionals with 1-2 years of outside sales experience willing to learn a new industry.

Our lists represent a diverse and eclectic author base of new and seasoned authors both in fiction and non-fiction. Many of our authors are vetted, with many having edited manuscripts and platforms.
The literary agent will gain familiarity with the authors style in order to prepare  book proposals  to present to publishers. The literary agents main goal is to  secure book deals for authors.

Please also have experience handling royalty statements, negotiating contracts, and tracking contracts and payments. Please also have an interest in books and developing successful authors.
This position is commission only with a  higher than average competitive split.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrange meetings with editors/reps at publishing houses to present book proposals; confirm meetings and follow through with publishers once meeting is completed.
  • Communicate in a professional and amicable manner while representing a culturally-diverse client base of authors.

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience working in the publishing industry or 1-2 years outside sales experience.
  • Knowledge of ACT or Outlook Task preferred.
  • Must be an excellent communicator with an ability to establish a rapport with diverse and eclectic personalities.
  • Must have a go-getter attitude with the ability to work independently. Must be proactive and a self starter.
  • Highly detail-oriented with meticulous organization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Able to find publishers for authors in an efficient and fast-paced manner.
  • Proficient in MS Power Point, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Outside Sales – Account Representative

Author Agency is growing! We’re looking for an experienced Outside Sales Account Representative. 

Overview:
Author Agency assist publishers in marketing, promoting, and advertising their authors and books effectively, efficiently, and economically. With a fusion of traditional and online marketing support, Author Agency helps authors and publishers gain visibility amongst customers, businesses, and reward programs. As experts in marketing books, authors, and publishers, our main goal is to help publishers gain visibility and improve book sales, thus increasing their ROI.

With full marketing support available to authors, publishers no longer have to worry about assisting their authors with marketing questions and can focus on what they do best; publishing great books!

Job Description
This is a Outside Sales Account Representative position located in the New York area. The Outside Sales Account Representative will sell Author Agency’s diverse marketing and advertising services to book publishers. You will work an assigned sales territory and business lists while driving new business from prospecting to close. Territory can expand with excellent performance.

There’s opportunity to earn over $100K uncapped compensation commensurate with performance. Please have a demonstrated track record of success. Self-motivated, innovative, sales professionals will sell marketing packages to independent to large sized book publishers. You’ll offer book publishers the opportunity to improve their online and print advertising and other marketing and publishing needs. 

You do need outside sales experience to be successful in this role!  Advertising, marketing, publishing, or media experiences are a plus as well as experience in digital media (search engine marketing, search engine optimization, web design, social media marketing, mobile and tablet marketing, etc.). A strong work ethic; highly self-motivated and self-disciplined with ability to work effectively with little or no supervision, you will set your own hours.

This position is commission only with a  higher than average commission rate per sale and an uncapped Commission Plan.

Responsibilities:  

  • Ability to Travel
  • Optimize Sales of our publisher marketing services.
  • Prospecting for new business by identifying and qualifying leads generated from cold-calling, networking, marketing, referrals and lead databases. Learn about the marketing needs of each publisher, uncover opportunities, and suggest publisher marketing package that will increase the publishers ROI.
  • Setting appointments with book publishers  and meeting with decision makers in their place of business.
  • Using interactive webinars, state of the art presentation tools to educate and sell available marketing package solutions, that include search engine marketing, SEO, websites, direct mail, video, and more, based upon your prospective clients’ needs and goals
  • Servicing current clients and expanding current business by understanding clients’ changing needs and making appropriate, innovative marketing, advertising, and media recommendations to strengthen your client’s marketplace presence; delivering the pinnacle of account services.
  • Continuously learning and growing in product and skill knowledge, as well as general interest in learning new technologies.

Desired Experience:  

  • One to Two years of business-to-business outside sales experience (is preferred but not required)
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Adaptable, resilient, positive attitude, with an unshakable optimism
  • Prospective and cold calling experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; a college degree is preferred
  •  

Desired Skills:  

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and  an in depth knowledge of PowerPoint strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of Internet and search engines.
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Outgoing personality with expertise at developing relationships (i.e., “People Person”)
  • Good communicator—excellent oral and written skills and ability to explain a vast array of products and services in a simple and concise manner
  • Computer literate, internet savvy, and passionate about learning new systems
