Book Publishing Questions

Yes and No. Author Agency is a full service publishing and marketing agency that assist authors in getting published, whether traditionally or self published. You will find authors that have used our services to get published on Amazon.com, other major online book retailers and in brick and mortar book stores such as Barnes and Nobles.

Author Agency is not the publisher of record for any self published book, we do not take any royalties from authors. Authors who are traditionally published share royalties with the publisher they get a book deal with.

Author Agency is a buffer between authors and book agents, a bridge and means for authors to get published. We connect authors with book agents who work for literary agencies around the country. We send book proposals to book agents of authors that they can quickly get book deals for.

Author Agency is different from the majority of self publishing companies because we don’t take any percentage of author royalties, own any rights to the authors book, and provide the means for authors to get deep discounts when printing their books. We also will not act as a middle man between the Author and the Author’s Book/POD Printers, and/or distributors. We ensure that authors get the best prices and make the most money off their creation.

Contact us and we’ll help you find a book agent.

Behind the scenes of any great artist is a great manager working to create a great brand. If you want to traditionally publish we recommend that you seek out the services of a Book Agent that will guide your professional career, and also assist you in areas you may not have the time or expertise in. In the traditional publishing world, mainstream publishers will not deal directly with authors, they let book agencies do the leg work. So although literary agencies don’t actually do any publishing, they are the gatekeepers to the traditional publishing world. Find a Book Agent today

There are many pros and cons of traditional publishing and self publishing. Take the time to review the pros and cons of self publishing and traditionally publishing.

The ISBN, or International Standard Book Number, is an identification number that is unique for every book and different versions of that book (paperback, hardcover, mass market, ebook, etc.). The Author will own all ISBN’s for his/her book when using self publishing through Author Agency. We do not participate in the practice of assigning company owned ISBN’s to author’s books when the author self publishes. When authors seek to get traditionally published through Author Agency, the publisher who gives the author a publishing deal will own the ISBN

No, Author Agency does not take any royalties from any book sales for any Author that self publish through Author Agency. The Author owns the ISBN’s for the book, and is also the publisher, and sole individual who decides entities that can take royalties off his/her book. Even if you are highly impressed by our services and ask us to take a percentage of royalties from your book sales, we’d decline, as that is no part of our business model!

Authors should utilize our publishing services because we can help them get traditionally published or self published successfully. Our services are meant to help build an authors platform and readership, and provide the best quality book for readers

Depending on the publishing package you purchased, you may have up to several reviews. Once you have approved a sample copy and cover, we’ll send you a final copy of your book/ebook.

Book Editing Questions

Please have friends, family, avid readers, a writing coach, etc., read over your manuscript and use their feedback to check the editorial quality of your book. You may also post free chapters on your website and ask readers for their feedback. This is also a great method for collecting emails and marketing to readers who have interest in your book.

The Editorial Evaluation will determine if further editing services are needed to improve your manuscript. Please do not mistake the Editorial Evaluation for an Author Agency editorial service. You’ll be provided with a general overview of your manuscript. From there you can determine if you will need to purchase any editorial services, or do further editing on your book.

You should definitely edit your book. Would you want to watch a dvd where scenes were not complete, and actors are messing up their script mid sentence? Your book needs to flow so that the reader enjoys his/her experience with your book. Reading a good book can be an intimate experience, don’t take the joy away from readers by not getting your book edited. Authors selecting to self publish are responsible for editing their book. Authors who get traditionally published, the publisher handles the editing. Either way, authors should edit at least three chapters of their book before seeking the services of a book agent.

Realistically you should start marketing your book from when you first decided that you wanted to write it. It is never too early to build buzz and an audience. Don’t hesitate to create visibility for you and your book. The longer you wait to market your book, the more difficult it will become. Do not wait to market your book, as you can always market your ideas before your book is published. Good companies start the marketing process of their products months before it is available to the public, you should do the same.

Tell your friends, family, and co-workers about it. Launch your website along with your social media pages. These are things Author Agency’s marketing solutions are available for you to take full advantage of. Marketing takes time, effort, and persistence, so get started as early as you can.

When setting up a book signing be sure that the bookstore understands that you want to sell your books on a consignment basis. Author Managers are available to assist you in setting up bookstore signings. Use the marketing services available through Author Agency to show the bookstore that you are motivated to invite guest into the bookstore. This works out well for the bookstore as well.

There are many ways to go about this, make sure it is professionally done. If you have an Author Manager, have the Author Manager approach the bookstore. Our Mini Distribution Kit will give you many tips on how to get your book into your local bookstore.

Yes, you should concentrate a good amount of your efforts on special sales. This is probably the best method in getting the greatest return on your investment. Look for consignment opportunities, such as if you have a book about electronics, you may want to inquiry about selling your book at an electronic conference. If you have a gifty type of book you may want to contact various companies to see if they are willing to buy your book for their employees. Donate a portion of your book sales to a good cause and hand out book forms at your job, your friends jobs, etc. You can also agree to give your friend a commission if he/she brings a book form to their job.
